As a former elite sportsman David established the National Aboriginal Sporting Chance Academy to empower young people through health, education, sport and cultural programs, led the Dare to Lead for Business strategy engaging CEO’s and educators in practical strategies to improve educational and employment outcomes for young people.
In 2009 David was the recipient of a Churchill Fellowship and on his return to Australia established CorporateConnect.AB a Supply Nation certified Indigenous business engaged in linking the corporate sector to the development of Indigenous enterprise and employment opportunities. Two additional businesses were established to provide a suite of interconnected support for Aboriginal youth - Birubi Australia and DLG Recruitment and Labour Hire.
Zippy Cleaning and Maintenance Services has been providing cleaning and maintenance solutions to corporate and government clients since 1985. Over 1000 sites across South Australia and the Northern Territory now benefit from our collaborative approach to cleaning.
We tailor our services for each client allowing us to deliver more innovative solutions, exceptional cleanliness and an unparalleled level of service, whether scheduled or urgent. Zippy are a family owned and operated business, not a franchise; we take responsibility for ensuring total customer satisfaction.
We directly employ all of our cleaning staff and recognise that they are our biggest resource and asset. Training, support and guidance is continually provided to develop skills and foster a highly professional team. We have strict anti-discrimination policies in place to ensure that employment opportunities are available to all members of the community.
We are currently drafting our ‘Reflect’ Reconciliation Action Plan which is the process of developing the cultural capability of the organisation in respect to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Although we have a number of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander employees, we are committed to extending the participation through employment of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians across our organisation and in all roles.
Along with raising awareness and understanding throughout our company, we aim to develop strategies to ensure that employment and procurement opportunities are available to all potential applicants, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people Our Accreditations are the backbone for all of the policies and procedures that make up our Management System. We are accredited to ISO9001 Quality, AS4801 Safety and ISO14001 Environmental and we are very proud to currently be the only cleaning services provider in Australia with GECA 37-2008 Environmental Cleaning Services accreditation. We are also currently the only company in South Australia and the Northern Territory to offer 100% chemical free cleaning solutions through our Stabilised Aqueous Ozone cleaning system.
We work hard to find suppliers that not only can provide innovative and environmentally friendly products and services, but also that fit with our values of Respect, Continuous Improvement, Innovation and Community.
We feel passionately about contributing to the growth of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander owned businesses in South Australia and the Northern Territory and have been proactive in developing strong relationships with a number of Indigenous owned businesses in recent years.
In searching for more effective ways to grow the Indigenous participation across our organisation, we connected with David Liddiard and the David Liddiard Group of businesses.
In coming to know and understand the significant work and experiences that David Liddiard and his business partner Andrea Harms have been engaged in for over twenty years, we identified an alignment of values and a commitment to and passion for the same outcomes for Indigenous Australians - economic independence through education and employment.
We have already begun work on our central strategy which is to develop a robust Indigenous employment Strategy for the organisation that provides a mentored and supported career pathway through the industry.
Testimonials for Zippy
The University of Adelaide College has been using Zippy Cleaning and Maintenance Services for cleaning our building for over five years.
The company is always very professional and responsive to our needs. The cleaning staff are well trained and courteous. Whenever we have had issues with the standard of cleaning or with our cleaning specification not being met, we have contacted our Client Services Manager and the problems have been resolved promptly and efficiently.
Zippy use environmentally-sound cleaning products which is of significant importance to us.
A few years ago we opened a second campus in the CBD and it was an easy decision to continue using Zippy’s services. In a busy environment it is a relief to know that Zippy can be relied upon to provide a quality cleaning service.

The University of Adelaide College
Concordia College has been using Zippy Cleaning & Maintenance Services for our College cleaning since 2007. We have continued with this service due to their competent and caring staff, who have become an integral part of our College life.
They always see to our concerns and requests and are willing to go the extra mile when important functions are on, or extra out of contract hours are required.
We now are using the onsite staff for our end of day lock-up and security check, which has assisted the College greatly for the last few years.
I have found Zippy’s Cleaners, Supervisors & Managers always to be friendly, courteous and helpful no matter what the problem and this contributes greatly to our long association.
I have no hesitation in recommending their services to any other organisation.

“The community based projects are the most evident demonstration of the commitment of David Liddiard to sustainable business development initiatives. Our company has also made a commitment to at least one of these, and we see this as an opportunity to play a role in supporting Indigenous economic development as it aligns with our core business. David Liddiard understands the issues in communities which impact on and hinder economic enterprise, and they are playing a strategic role in assisting community in over- coming issues of lack of skills and expertise by engaging the corporate sector to develop relationships with specific communities, send mentors and skill share.”
